One of Uganda's most promising young bodybuilders and a former footballer, Ivan has massive legs and a well proportioned upper body. Bob and Kalyango of NTPowerhouse Africa met him in Kampala and here is what he told us.


I started bodybuilding in 2003 after a serious injury which forced me out of football, I used to train at a local gym in Kisugu, a suburb of Kampala city. I was ready to compete by 2004 but no single bodybuilding event took place that year. In 2005 I started working out at Nakivubo Powerhouse gym and there I met a lot of good bodybuilders including the current Mr Uganda John Bosco. As everyone was training to compete for Mr Uganda 2005, I also started serious training and went on to compete in the national Junior championship. Weighing 75 kg, I won my middleweight category and was even the overall winner. In 2006 I competed in Mr Uganda and placed 3rd overall. It is so far my best performance at a senior level. I have only competed twice outside Uganda competing in Mr Eldoret and placing third in my weight category on both occasions.

Presently I am training hard to concur the Mr. Kampala and Mr. Uganda titles this year so that I can qualify for African championships later. I know i can achieve it because i am in my best form ever weighing 92 kg of solid muscles, I want to leave a land mark as the Africa's greatest bodybuiders of all time when i retire like Charles Kasasa, the only former African champion from Uganda.

I enjoy training all bodyparts but when it comes to legs I feel like someone eating his delicious meal. I can train all other bodyparts alone but when it comes to the legs I always need a spotter because I can be tempted to load more heavier weights than what I can lift.

I go swimming and sometimes play football during my spare time and at times like chatting with friends. I haven't been in bodybuilding for so long time like my other counter parts but have made more friends more than anyone else through bodybuilding. I work as a bouncer at Al's bar in Kabalaga 4 kilometres from the city centre.
