THE LONGITIVITY PROJECT Presents...
Community Health and Development Fun Run / Walk 2006


The Longevity Project is a non-governmental organization based in Ghana, which aims at increasing the life spun of Ghanaians. To achieve this, the club has organised a Fun Run / Walk on the 9th of September 2006 at the Independence Square, Accra to sensitise the society on awareness of the need to exercise the body regularly.
The programme started at 6:00am at the Independence Square through the streets of Accra and back to the square. Even though the Walk was the first of its kind, it attracted a sizable number of Ghanaians all over the country ranging from children, adults and even the blind and some few foreign nationals.

At the end of the walk at about 8:30am was an inspiration massage from the Chief Executive Officer of The longitivity Project in a person of Dr. Anna Bannerman-Richter: "Did you know that the life expectancy of Ghanaians is a low 55-57 years? Did you know that you can increase your life expectancy and the quality of your life? The mission of The Longitivity Project is to increase the life expectancy and quality of life of Ghanaians. We do this by providing community health education in the prevention and treatment of life-threatening diseases, disseminating information on sound nutrition and diet, and promoting physical education and nutrition programs in first and second circle institutions among many other services."
Shortly after this message was medical screening by some Doctors from Korlebu Teaching Hospital (Ghana's Premier Hospital) for the participants. The exercise lasted until 10 am, after which the various fitness groups and gyms were called upon to showcase what the had for the participants.

   1. Ashiasi University Martial Art Club Ashiasi Ghana, entertained the audience with their arts.
   2. 30th Accra Action Scout Group led by Abdul Rahim and Benedict Accra Ghana, demonstrated discipline.
   3. Technogym personal trainers: (Accra Ghana) Felix and Maudreen, demonstrated on fitness and toning of the body.
   4. Maximum Gym in Dansoman Accra Ghana, treated the audience with a local style aerobics (Ghanaians type of aerobics with local Ghanaian rhythm)
   5. NTPowerHouse Gym Teshie Accra represented by Lazgo and Sense, lectured on bodybuilding and demonstrated various exercises that improve muscle growth.
After the demonstrations of these groups was the raffle draw of the event in which products from some of the sponsors of the events were awarded to the deserving participants.
The event was given a colourful representation of some of Ghana's best highlife and hip life musicians with their inspirational music. Amanziba donated ten of his latest music album for the success of the programme. Other musicians present were Lady Talatah, Ghana's best female artist of all times and Shasha Marley who was the Master of Ceremony for the event. Shasha Marley is one of the Volunteers of the programme and has since inspired the youth to consider fitness as a tool to long life. The participants were well fed at the end of the programme which came to a successful end at 2:00pm.
The blind went to enjoy the event.
