MR EASTERN POWERLIFT & MUSICAL FIESTA 2007
Venue: Eridec Hotel, Koforidua E/R.
Event Organiser: Flex Entertainment
A local weightlifting/bodybuilding championship was held in Koforidua, Ghana Eastern Region, on January 1st, 2007 at Eredec Hotel. It was organized by Flex Entertainment Koforidua and attracted some of the best Ghanaian bodybuilders. GGBL GOLD ARROW was the prime sponsor. The show was interluded with musical performances from famous artistes. It attracted 817 people across the nation.
The event organizers are planning a National weightlifting contest, mid this year. Side Attraction: 'Muscle Flex' from the nation's most popular Body Builders

The competition opened with the bench press. The eleven competitors took their turn with 115kg in which all of them excelled in this warm up show.
During the first round with a weight of 130kg, Philip Awutey was disqualified. In the third round with 140kg, the remaining ten of them stood their ground but then came the fourth round with 160kg to disqualify Richard Osei, Mawuli Baniba, Buahari Abdulraman, Francis Sowah and Cyril Adja.
This could simply not be the end. The fifth round came with a weight of 180kg and disqualified Booku Kofi, a policeman, Prince Sasco and Bright Opoku. And now when the surprising weight of 190kg came in sight in last round of which many of the women tremble, Sam Lee gave up the fight and Sumaila Alhassan took the day with lifting this tremendous weight.

The Master of Ceremony Arnold Aryee (right picture) is the Man Ghana 2006 Champion in the Middle Weight Division.
During the squat session, only four of the eleven competitors competed and among these were Cyril Adja of Greater Accra Region, Sam Lee from the Volta Region, Sumaila Alhassan from the Ashanti Region and Bright Opoku also from the Ashanti Region. During the first round of the above mentioned discipline, a weight of 140kg was taken in the first round in which all the four competitors passed through to the admiration of the crowd present and then came the second round with 160kg in which Sam Lee was disqualified. Then came the third round with 200kg that the two remaining competitors went through. In the 5th round came an amazing weight of 210kg to determine the winner. Sumaila Alhassan despite his efforts failed and Cyril Adja proved what he is worth in squat and won.
The same four competitors participated in the dead lift and what a show it was to see the crowd feed their hungry eyes as they bend on the weight. Below is the result of the dead lift. The best team however came from the Ashanti Region.
