THE REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON

Population
: 16.6 million (UN, 2005)
Capital: Yaounde
Area: 465,458 sq km (179,714 sq miles)
Major languages:  French, English, Bantu, Semi-Bantu and Sudanic groups
Monetary unit: CFA Franc

Compared to other African countries, Cameroon enjoys relative political and social stability. This has permitted the development of agriculture, roads, railways, and large petroleum and timber industries. Nevertheless, large numbers of Cameroonians live in poverty as subsistence farmers. Power lies firmly in the hands of the president, Paul Biya, and his Cameroon People's Democratic Movement party. The Anglophone community has grown increasingly alienated from the government, and Anglophone politicians have called for greater decentralisation or even secession of the former British-governed territories.

Cameroon Overview
Bernard Issogola, World Natural Championships (UIBBN), MiddleWeight,
1st in 2005. He was the runner-up last year 2006 at the same contest.
Antony Bessala was the runner-up at the French Bodybuilding Championship last May 13th, 2006 held in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France.
Mr Augustin Edjoa
Minister of Sports & Physical Education
You can find a lot of local and professional gyms in Yaounde and Douala. Well equipped gyms with European standards are very expensive for young Cameroonians. Monthly rates range from 15,000 to 30,000 F CFA. Some of the best gyms are Club Moving, Gymnasium Center, Energie Club, Carter Gym, etc.
But the best Cameroonians bodybuilders champions like Antony Bessala and Bernard Issogola, who now live in Europe, have started lifting weights at a local gyms. The present Mr Cameroon champion, Stephen Boussou, is himself the owner of a local gym. All the equipments have been hand made by Stephen. Members only pay 2,000 F CFA at the end of each month... and those who can't afford it can train for free!
Cameroon has a Minister of Sports and Physical Education: Mr Augustin Edjoa, but bodybuilders complain that nothing has been done for their sport so far. There are a few bodybuilding associations, but they do not organize any competitions because of lack of sponsorship. The biggest bodybuilding shows in Cameroon are organized by Club Moving and they always attract competitors from all over the country.
Bodybuilders in Cameroon are associated with weight-lifters within the FECAHAC: Fédération Camerounaise d'Haltérophilie et Culturisme. They are unsatisfied with this and claim their autonomy to the ministry of Sports and physical Education. At their head is Anaclet Abé, president of  the Cameroon association of bodybuilding (Cab) who says that bodybuilders in Cameroon have the right to a distinct Federation of body-building.
