Ghana to compete In African Championship

2nd July 2006 - Ghanaian Sylverster Dennis placed 7th at the IBFA Universe Championship 2006 in Sapri, Italy, Men Bodybuiding Medium Class (170-178cm). The winner of this Class was Uwe Hemmer from Germany.

Nigeria Men's Ultimate Classic
June 2006 - The Men's Ultimate Classic, established in 1996, is the most celebrated bodybuilding competition in Nigeria. It attracts many of the best competitors including Seighfa Buddy Ovoh who won the coveted first place trophy in the inaugural event. New Musclemania Pro Champion from Ghana
13 July 2006 - New Musclemania Canada Champion Michael Kwao of Toronto weighed in at 183 lbs. with perfect shape and symmetry and an entertaining performance and it was this combination which won him the Heavyweight and Overall titles.  In his weight class, he beat computer software designer Robert Lagana who was making his comeback after a 6 year layoff and freight broker

Man Ghana 2006
18 August 2006 - This November, the Ghana Muscleflavour Amateur Bodybuilding Association: GMABA will showcase the nation biggest and only official bodybuilding championship - Man Ghana 06, which will combine sport and entertainment with the finals offering patrons of the sport of bodybuilding. The president of the GMABA, Mr Abdul-Hayye Yartey said he was impressed with the progress of the association and with the level of health and fitness activities in the country recently. He also called upon all Ghanaians to engage themselves in some form of fitness activities and also to pick up membership in gyms.

Ghana's Strongest Man Competition
August 2006 - Aviation Social Centre, Accra will organize the Ghana's Strongest Man Competition on 2nd September, 2006. Events will include: obstacle race, dead lift, log packing, chin ups, tyre flip, crucifix hold, bench press, squats, truck pull and farmers walk. 29 August 2006 - This week a significant event takes place at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel where the Head of State leads a high profile audience with a duty to confer honours on a select group of sporting greats and express the nation's profound gratitude for the honour and wonderful moments they brought to Ghanaians. The second National Sports Awards comes off on Thursday, August 31 with 11 individuals and a team to be honoured for sporting excellence, including weightlifter Majeti Fetrie. Alassane Sanogo wins ABBCI Bodybuilding Championship
3rd September 2006 - Alassane Sanogo (aka Alasko) has won the Bodybuilding Championship organized in Cote d'Ivoire by the Association des BodyBuilders de Côte d'Ivoire (ABBCI). The show, initially scheduled on August 27th, was eventually postponed on September 3rd and took place at Degny Plage in San Pedro, Ivory Coast.

Kenyan President urges youth to take up sports and entertainment
14 September 2006 - President Kibaki has challenged the youth to venture into sports and entertainment, which, he said, have unexploited opportunities. "We are encouraging the youth to take part in sports and to set up clubs to assist those with talent," he said. "The entertainment industry also has considerable potential for growth and expansion." He cautioned the youth against alcohol, drug abuse and HIV/Aids, which he termed as serious threats, and urged young people to form business groups. The Head of State spoke on Wednesday when he opened the third Global Youth Employment Summit (YES) at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi. (Source: The Standard)

Nigeria Bodybuilding Federation backs Governor Odili
14 September 2006 - Mr Soye Elekima, President of the Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of Nigeria, calls for Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State to vie for the 2007 presidential election. According to him, "the Dr Odili-led administration has really touched lives, not only in Rivers State, but also in Nigeria.
